Ever wonder why some people have just one great idea, one huge hit song or one sizzling bestseller and are never heard from again? That one-hit wonder phenomenon might not be so hard to explain. And understanding it can help you be sure your own creativity never gets stagnant.
It turns out that recognition for a big success or a brilliant idea can cause some people to be afraid of a disappointing second act. That fear inhibits their creativity and makes them less likely to be willing to take the risk of trying something new and innovative, researchers suggest.
So how can you make sure your big ideas keep coming? For one thing, if you do have a big success, don’t let it go to your head. Focus on both your achievements and mistakes. That way you’ll be less likely to identify as having had one big success in the first place.

And don’t be afraid to have and, more importantly, share ideas that you’re not sure are going to work. No one expects you to be perfect and most people will likely respect you more if you’re open and honest about your failings.
And if you find yourself stuck for your next big idea, you might try turning off the phone, getting some exercise or making an inspiring playlist — all of which can help get you out of your day-to-day work mode and spark some creativity.
